Ned Davis Research

Ned Davis Research (NDR) was founded in 1980 by Ned Davis, who believes that forecasting reliably ("Being Right") is "impossibly difficult", and adheres to the philosophy that one can consistently win ("aka Money") through a disciplined strategy of following objective indicator evidence. Hence, NDR has a strong belief in "flexibility" (the ability to adapt) and produces many sentiment indicators to warn investors at crowd extremes, and to help them be open-minded about potential trend changes. NDR dedicates it research to helping investors avoid major disasters, cut their losses, and let their profits run. As a result, NDR's research can best be characterized as an objective, disciplined approach that focuses on risk-management, staying in harmony with the primary trend, and avoiding disasters. NDR fuses various analytical techniques, such as technical, fundamental, intermarket, and macro to provide their clients with a well-rounded point of view.

NDR provides its research to over 1,000 institutions in more than 35 countries making it one of the largest independent providers of comprehensive institutional research. Until recently, NDR's research was only available to institutions.

NDR is a member of Investorside Research Association, an exclusive association of independent equity research providers who must meet and certify that they are free of investment banking services.

Company-specific research is updated weekly by noon on Mondays. NDR's unique research product features historical analysis on fundamental and valuation factors for individual equities, which provide objective assessments and quantitatively-based recommendations. This weekly service includes an objective stock rating based upon independent, fundamental and technical models, as well as additional perspectives about the stock. BUY, HOLD, NEUTRAL or SELL recommendations are included for each of the approximately 1,800 stocks in the universe.

Negative Earnings Surprises

A negative earnings surprise occurs when a company's announced earnings (required four times per year) are lower than the consensus of what the market thought the company would announce by at least 5%. When you choose to show results in quintiles, the universe of searched stocks includes all stocks that have a percent decrease in reported earnings relative to the consensus for the time period reported. When you search for a specific value, enter a positive number to specify the change. All numbers are absolute numbers representing the magnitude of the change.

Net Asset Value (NAV) is the market value of a share of a mutual fund as calculated after the close of the previous trading day. The NAV for mutual funds and money markets is updated once per day, after the close of trading. All dates and times are reported in ET.

A negative surprise is usually interpreted by the market as bad news. Since the market tends to overreact to bad news, you can use this criterion to find companies that might be undervalued.

Negative Earnings Surprises (Last 7-Day) identifies negative earnings surprises (and their magnitude) within the past seven days.

Negative Earnings Surprises (Last 30-Day) identifies negative earnings surprises (and their magnitude) within the past 30 days.

Negative Earnings Surprises (Last 90-Day) identifies negative earnings surprises (and their magnitude) within the past 90 days.

Investors also still pay any fund level expenses, such as asset-based sales charges (12b-1 fees) and other fund expenses as detailed in the prospectus.

Load funds are not included under the Evaluator's NTF identifier, although you do not pay a transaction fee on load funds. You are charged a sales load by the fund, a portion of which is paid to Fidelity.
